Think-Tank: The Arrogant Leader
The Library and the "Sandwiches"
Mother Goose to the Rescue
Character Sketches
- Think-Tank: The Commander-in-Chief. He has a huge, balloon-like head and is absurdly arrogant. He demands respect but is actually a coward and a fool. He relies on guesswork and Noodle's subtle hints while taking all the credit. He represents the danger of ego-driven leadership.
- Noodle: Think-Tank's apprentice. He is the real brain behind the Martian operation. He is tactful and knows how to correct Think-Tank's mistakes without hurting his ego. He is observant and modest, eventually replacing Think-Tank as the leader of Mars.
The Book That Saved The Earth Q&A (Board Special)
Q1. Why did Think-Tank choose to invade Earth?
A. Think-Tank viewed Earth as a primitive ball of mud. He wanted to establish Martian dominance over all planets and thought Earth would be an easy and unimportant conquest to add to his "magnificent" empire.
Q2. How did Noodle suggest the Martians should listen to the "communication devices"?
A. Noodle observed that Earthlings didn't eat the "sandwiches" but opened them and looked at them. He suggested they were non-electronic communication devices. He then tactfully proposed that they should use vitamins to increase their brain power to understand the "codes" (the text) inside.
Q3. What was the "Mother Goose" book? Why did it scare Think-Tank?
A. 'Mother Goose' is a famous book of children's nursery rhymes. Think-Tank misinterpreted the rhymes literally. He thought 'Humpty Dumpty' was a plan to capture him and that Earthlings had discovered a way to grow explosive shells (from the silver bells rhyme). His arrogance made him read gravity into silly verses.
